Johnson S. Nyenka
Teacher in Liberia
Joseph Gbato has taught at Bridge Liberia J. W. Pearson school for three years now. His pupils affectionately call him, ‘Bro Joseph’, and he is a well known figure at the school due to his friendly nature and through his daily interaction with the children.
It takes him two hours to travel to school every day, because he has to come from one of Monrovia’s suburbs in very busy traffic! However, Joseph is undeterred and continues to arrive on time, because he believes that, “the Bridge program is one of the best globally.”
Joseph is a Grade 3 teacher and extremely confident of his pupils abilities, seeing that they are very bright. He happily declares: “Our kids are learning well, they can match students from any school—and the results will show.”
Outside of school, Joseph keeps an active life. He enjoys reading books and exercising, he explains, as well as teaching the children at Church bible studies. Well, you can take the teacher out of the classroom but you can’t take the classroom out of the teacher! Good job, Joseph.
