Johnson S. Nyenka
Teacher in Liberia
Meet Saturday Valentine Williams, the Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher at Little Wlebo School. Saturday has been teaching for four years and trained in Maryland at the university there. Later, when his school entered the LEAP programme, he received further training from Bridge. “This training was very different from what I had done before,” he explains. “I learned hands-on techniques like using flash cards, singing. It was more teaching by doing.”
Saturday is very proud of what he’s achieved so far, and hopes to keep getting better. “My profession is important,” he says. “Most ECD teachers are older these days – I wanted to bring some new thoughts to the classroom.” He keeps learning fun by always using songs and dances for his young students. “I love helping them improve,” he smiles.
